Education and Learning

The education reform law passed in 1999 stresses the importance of life-long learning, local curriculum development, and developing student-centered education systems. In practice, however, implementing these reforms is not an easy task. For example,
development of local curriculums requires new skills among teachers, and student-centered learning requires a shift in the perspective of educators, teachers, parents, students and the community.

Raks Thai Foundation began its education program with production of the Uncle Witty Owl magazine to encourage children’s reading behaviors and promote awareness of the environment and health issues. During the last 4-5 years, Raks Thai Foundation has promoted education reform working with local teachers to produce community learning centers in general education, environmental education and occupational choice. Leadership, analytical and life skills among youth is another important target of programming.
