Suntory PepsiCo Beverage (Thailand) Company Limited or SPBT, the producer and distributor of Pepsi-Cola in Thailand, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Raks Thai Foundation to implement the projects on water education for school children and watershed conservation. The cooperation will help rehabilitate and preserve Thailand’s forest in a sustainable manner, educate local teachers on water conservation and raise Thai children awareness on the importance of water resources.
This partnership has derives from the corporate philosophy of SPBT called “Mizu To Ikiru” in protecting water that is one of the most precious of natural resources. The company joined with Raks Thai Foundation, who aims to leverage quality of life for people in the society, to effectively operate several long-term water projects. The two key initiatives are the Watershed Conservation projects in the forest area of the Mae Suk River, Amphoe Mae Cham, Chiang Mai, and the Water Education (Mizuiku) projects for school children in Rayong and Saraburi. Some of activities under these projects include:
• Train the Trainers program for local teachers on water conservation, which can be shared to students and people in their community.
• Youth Camps and Water Detective activity to raise children awareness on the importance of water resources.
• Reforestation, vetiver grass planting and firebreaks and check dams constructions in the watershed forest area of the Mae Suk River, Amphoe Mae Cham, Chiang Mai.
• Providing mountain water supply systems for four communities in Tumbon Mae Suk, Amphoe Mae Cham, Chiang Mai, to leverage the quality of life for the communities in terms of access to clean water.
