On 14th September 2018, Raks Thai Foundation, a member of CARE International, held the event “Women today: Empowering tomorrow”. The event included a presentation of distinguished guest speakers and a deep discussion reflecting on how to empower women’s voice and the country’s situation. It is globally believed that the imbalance of women’s participation in economics, health, education, and politics is a key barrier to sustainable development. And, to empower women and girls, the United Nations has mandated gender equality as one of the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs 5). Consequently, we are certainly proud to have held this event in order to address this significant issue to the society.
At this time, Raks Thai Foundation wishes to focus on this matter as we want people to be more aware of the importance of empowering women in society. Raks Thai has been working on projects related to the empowerment of women for years. At this time, we have 3 main projects still being implemented including “Fund4life” in the insurgent areas of Southern Thailand, “Chi Va Pa Doi” in the Northern highland area of Chiang Mai Province, and “Functional literacy” in the Northern highland area of Nan Province. The event featured a series of exhibitions displaying the stories of women in those particular projects.
“Women today: Empowering tomorrow” gave participants a boarder knowledge of women’s empowerment and the benefits of it to our society. If you are one of those interested in helping our society be a better place for women and girls, please join us at KBANG-Siam Pic-Ganesha theater on 14th September 2018.
