Forests are an important factor affecting the balance of the ecosystems including human life. Nevertheless, forest degradation and loss of forest areas are currently the global problem. To restore the forests, water and soil moisture are needed. 'Building Check Dams' is one of the options that would create soil moisture for the forest to grow.

ALSTOM Foundation and ALSTOM (Thailand) Ltd. have recognized these problems of forest degradation and loss of forest coverage, and made it their priority to restore watershed forests. Therefore, ALSTOM Foundation, ALSTOM (Thailand) Ltd., and Raks Thai Foundation have partnered up to implement the HIGHLAND WATER SUSTAINABLE MANAGEMENT AND CONSERVATION project in 2022. The project has resulted in building more than 1000 check dams in remote areas of Mae Chaem and Kanlayaniwattana District, Chiang Mai Province as in these areas, most local people have difficulty accessing clean water due to the high altitude of the location.

In December 2022, Alstom Thailand, led by Project Promoter Warut Tuncharoen, and Raks Thai Foundation led by Resources Development Director Nichcha Toraktrakul, together with the local community members contributed to the project and built check dams at Ban Huay Khi Poe, Mae Suek Subdistrict, Mae Chaem District. They were welcomed by Deputy President of Mae Suek Subdistrict Administrative Organization, Lawan Moonsa.

Thank you ALSTOM Foundation and ALSTOM Thailand for supporting the creation of clean water sources for people living in remote areas, ensuring their water security.
